Thor was the thunder god. In fact, his name was derived from Thunus, fron which the modern english word thunder comes from. Now, in the classical greek/roman myths, the thunder god Zeus/Jupiter was the king god, arbiter of all things associated with the nobles more than common people. Yet, in Norse myth the Thunder god is not the highest - Ošinn takes this place. Consequentally, Thor becomes the favourite of the common people and Ošinn the noble class. Thor is neiter arbiter nor wise. It's also interesting that in such a society where warriors were so highly valued had a god that would sacrafice so much for knowledge.
